Britons living in Cyprus and Cypriots living in the UK

In an unusual display of common sense, Britain and EU negotiators have reached a deal in principle  whereby reciprocal healthcare services will be continued for both Britons living in the EU and EU citizens living in Britain.

The 31st August edition of Britain’s Guardian newspaper reports this to be one of four areas of agreement. The other three concern protection for frontier workers such as Britons living in the Uk and commuting to the EU for work, the co-ordination of social security and the recognition of each other’s professional qualifications.

The reciprocal healthcare, in particular, will be a big relief for Britons living in Cyprus and Cypriots living in the UK. The downside is that this is only an agreement in principle so the various governments concerned still have a chance to do what governments seem to do best!
