Honey and its 5 benefits

Honey and its 5 benefits

Sweet temptation

For almost 8,000 years, honey has been used for its healing use, as a sweetener, but also as a cosmetic.

1. Hydration of the skin
Honey helps to treat dry skin and acne. Its moisturising effect is due to the molecules of its sugars, which help the skin retain water. You can apply the honey directly on the skin, combine it with other natural ingredients (such as avocado, olive oil and lemon) to make homemade face creams or look for it as an ingredient in the care products you buy. To achieve deep hydration of the facial skin, apply honey directly after a hot shower and rinse with plenty of water after 20 minutes.

2. Protect from hangover
After a night with a lot of alcohol, a little honey on a slice of bread is exactly what you need. According to scientists from the Royal Society of Chemistry in England, honey is the most effective "medicine". Its beneficial effect is due to fructose, which helps the body metabolize and reject alcohol faster.

3. Excellent source of antioxidants
The antioxidants we get from our diet prevent the damage caused by free radicals in the cells and prevent ageing and chronic diseases such as heart disease. The darker the colour of the honey, the higher its antioxidant content. To avoid excessive sugar intake, the American Heart Association recommends that daily honey consumption not exceed one and a half tablespoons.

4. Treatment of cough
And who hasn't drunk a hot tea with honey when they have a sore throat and cough? According to a study in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, honey provides significant relief to children who have difficulty falling asleep due to persistent cough, but honey has the same effect in older adults.

5. Wound healing
Perhaps the best known application of honey in medicine is to treat wounds and sores. A study published in 2011 in the journal The Scientific World Journal suggested that honey promotes tissue regeneration and minimises scar formation after an injury.
