Chapel of Saint George Arperas

If you are a lover of archaeological places, but you also love to discover beautiful places for an excursion, then it is worth visiting the chapel of Saint George Arperas, which is located about 2km northeast of the village of Tersefanou, on the right side of the river Tremithos, in Larnaka.
  The chapel of Saint George Arperas, took the name Arpera, from the medieval settlement, which was called Arpera.
  The chapel was built by dragoman Christofakis Constantinou in 1745. In the chapel there is a characteristic mural which depicts Christofakis and his family, while they offer the church to Saint George, as well as an inscription which states the offer of dragoman to the Saint.

  This beautiful chapel is a vaulted church 13mx5m, with a semi-circular inner shield which is three-sided on the outside with a three-tiered window. It has 3 doors that lead to the church and a small one that leads to the matroneum (women’s chamber) of the church.

  The chapel of Saint George Arperas is decorated with wall paintings and icons painted by famous painters of the time, such as Ioannikios, Filaretos and Lavrentios, in 1745 and 1747 respectively. To the left of Prothesis, which is the name given in the Eastern Orthodox Church to the act of preparing the bread and wine for the purpose of performing the sacrament of Holy Communion and is located inside the Holy Step and to the left of the Holy Table, there is an inscription in which the names of the painters are written. On the same inscription, the living and descendants of the family of the dragoman Christofakis are written as well, in order to be mentioned by the priests in the Prothesis during the Liturgy of Preparation. The iconostasis and the pilgrimage icons were made by the dragoman Christofakis, while the icons of the apostles were paid of the Metropolitan of Kiti Meletios in 1785.
