Blue flag in Paphos for 2024

Geroskipou: 3 beaches were awarded with a blue flag

Pafos with the cleanest swimming waters in Europe, with the entire coastline having been awarded the "quality coast" award since 2013 and with 18 blue flag beaches rightly figures as one of the 100 greenest destinations in Europe.

Specifically, in Yeroskipou, the following were awarded with a blue flag: Laiki Paralia Beach, Yeroskipou Municipal Beach and Pachyammos 2.

The standards, which are recorded in the assessment, are about swimming safety, focusing on bacteria that can cause serious illness in people, rather than general water quality. Swimming quality in coastal waters was generally better compared to inland waters, as in 2023 89% of classified coastal swimming areas were classified as excellent, compared to 79% of inland swimming waters. Since the Bathing Water Directive was issued in 2006, the proportion of bathing waters with poor water quality has decreased and has remained stable since 2015. However, health risks from swimming continue to be a problem, with 321 recorded in 2023 " bad' areas in the EU.
