One evening at Mostra Meze Tavern in Saripolou, where “let’s just have something to eat” quickly turned into a table overflowing with authentic Greek flavours.

“Shall we go for a meze?” It sounds like a simple question, but at Mostra Meze Tavern, it can easily turn into a much bigger feast than you had planned.

We headed to Saripolou for a relaxed evening, expecting to grab a bite, experience for ourselves one of the places often described as one of Limassol’s most authentic Greek meze taverns, enjoy a glass of wine and call it a night.

Instead, we found ourselves at a table that kept filling up with one dish after another Greek flavours, tempting aromas and that dangerously familiar phrase we have all said at least once: “Okay… let’s get this one too, just to try it.”

And just like that, what started with the idea of “just one meze” turned into a full table of Greek goodness.

The appetisers arrived first, followed by the dishes we were most eager to try. The grilled octopus was an instant favourite. We also sampled seafood, grilled aubergines, a burger stuffed with feta, pork fillets, shrimp saganaki, feta saganaki and zucchini with skordalia.

The best part? Everything was served in the middle of the table, ready to be shared. Rather than everyone ordering their own dish, we ended up passing plates around, trying a little of everything and discovering new favourites along the way.

It was exactly the kind of experience you hope for from a traditional Greek meze tavern - relaxed, generous and made for sharing.

The service was friendly and attentive, with the staff happy to offer recommendations and help us decide what to order.

The location in Saripolou adds to the experience, too. Step outside and you are instantly surrounded by the lively energy of one of Limassol’s most vibrant areas.

And then came dessert…

After all those little meze dishes, a sweet treat arrived to round off the meal.

Looking back at our table before leaving, we realised we had tried far more than we had originally planned. And, honestly, that was one of the best things about the evening.

We came in for a meze. We left feeling completely satisfied, in great spirits, and already talking about coming back.

Because perhaps that is the best test of a restaurant: when you walk out the door and are already wondering when you can return.
