"Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free" 2019-2022

The results from the completion of the are Project particularly encouraging

The "Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free" project, an initiative of the TUI Care Foundation in partnership with the Travel Foundation and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) was successfully completed in the wider Famagusta region with an emphasis on the tourism industry of Ayia Napa and Protaras.

The particularly encouraging results from the implementation of the "Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free" project will be presented at the festive event that will take place on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 16:30 at the Malama Beach Holiday Village Hotel in Protaras.

The event will be addressed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios, Helen Caron, Member of the Board of Trustees of the TUI Care Foundation/TUI Group Product & Purchasing Director, the Mayor of Paralimni Theodoros Pyrillis, the President of Famagusta Tourism Board and Mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannettou, Elke Dens, Director of Global Programmes of the Travel Foundation and the Chairman of the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) Philippos Drousiotis.

The event will present the results as well as the actions of hotels and other tourism businesses that participated in the program and succeeded in reducing the consumption of disposable plastics in their businesses for the benefit of the environment and the local economy. A panel discussion will follow with the topic “Destination zero plastic waste: can Cyprus Tourism lead the way?”

The 2nd Plastic Free Beach, an initiative of the project that encourages and facilitates its visitors to avoid the use of single-use plastic, will be launched at the event. The first beach without single-use plastic was organized in 2021 on the beach of Ayia Triada. A reception with Cypriot delicacies and local products will follow.
