From the “Tzisisve” to the Freddo and to the most authentic brunch we’ve ever had

From the “Tzisisve” to the Freddo and to the most authentic brunch we’ve ever had

An experience where the soul of the old village meets the ease of modern life

If there’s one place that can hold the history of a village, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the carefree feeling of a slow morning, it’s this traditional Cypriot kafenes.

The day we visited 1842 που τον τζιησβέ... στο freddo, it felt like stepping into a small time capsule. The building, standing proudly since 1842 and one of the six original coffee houses of the area, still carries the warmth and authenticity only an old Cypriot traditional coffee shop can offer. And yet, inside this nostalgic atmosphere, the experience surprised us with how fresh and modern it felt.

We sat outside, overlooking the entire village. Around us were young people, families, groups of friends, all enjoying that unique blend of tradition and modern comfort that gives 1842 its character. And then came the brunch… a true journey of flavours.

The Cypriot platter with lounza, fried eggs, halloumi, olives, and homemade jams brought back memories of breakfasts at our grandmother’s house. Only here it was more thoughtful, more “village-style,” more authentic. Right next to it, the avocado toast was an unexpected delight, proof that this traditional coffee shop isn’t afraid to try something new. Freshly cut seasonal fruit and genuinely local products completed the experience with a sense of purity and quality.

As we left, it felt like we hadn’t just eaten brunch, we had lived a moment. A moment that proves that when tradition meets contemporary taste, something truly special is born.
