Summer Holidays

A Necessity for Well-being, Not a Luxury

In today's world, where time and energy are in short supply, holidays are often seen as an unnecessary expense or a luxury. However, scientific research shows that holidays are essential for physical health, mental balance, and the strengthening of social bonds—especially during the summer. Holidays, therefore, are an investment in our personal renewal.

The Benefits of Holidays for Health
Mental and Emotional Well-being
Holidays significantly help reduce stress and the release of stress hormones (like cortisol), with effects that can last even weeks after returning to work. At the same time, they offer quality time with loved ones, strengthening family and social ties. Stepping away from everyday routines encourages self-acceptance and mental relief. For children, holidays are a valuable opportunity for free and creative play and social interaction. Through new experiences, brain systems related to curiosity and joy are activated—enhancing learning, self-regulation, and psychological resilience.

Physical Rejuvenation
A change in pace and a generally higher level of physical activity during holidays lead to better sleep quality, less sedentary behavior, and improved cardiovascular function. Even just 20 minutes a day in nature lowers blood pressure and boosts mood.

Mental Restart
Mental relief during holidays increases creativity, concentration, and problem-solving ability. The mind "rests" and returns clearer and more effective. Moreover, breaking away from routine reinvigorates imagination and inspiration.

On the Other Hand...
Although holidays offer many benefits, they are not always easy for everyone. Many people experience loneliness, depression, or anxiety about their body due to social pressures and beauty standards. There's also the phenomenon of overexertion before and after holidays—or even the appearance of “leisure sickness,” where the body struggles to adapt suddenly to relaxation after intense stress.

Summer holidays are not just a break—they are a deep necessity for recharging the body, mind, and soul. They help us reconnect with ourselves, strengthen our relationships, and return to everyday life more creative and calm. We should approach them with mindfulness, not guilt—because self-care is not a luxury, but an urgent need.
