VIMA Art Fair is launching in just a few days in Limassol!
The first international contemporary art fair in Cyprus
Contemporary art will take center stage in Limassol from May 16 to 18. The VIMA Art Fair, the first international contemporary art fair in Cyprus, will take place in a renovated industrial building that once belonged to the historic winery SODAP, now known as “The Warehouse by IT Quarter”, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Its goal is to highlight the contemporary artistic creation of Cyprus and neighboring countries, while also inviting international galleries interested in connecting with the broader region.
"The Warehouse by IT Quarter"
The name VIMA (which means step in Greek) was chosen with the ambition of building bridges between the growing art ecosystems of Cyprus and its neighboring countries, offering both participants and the public an accessible, inclusive, and meaningful entry point into diverse cultural exchanges.
The VIMA Art Fair hosts galleries from Nicosia, Limassol, Athens, Thessaloniki, Beirut, Dubai, Baku, Tbilisi, The Hague, New York, Munich, London, and Rotterdam. During the three-day event, visitors will also have the chance to attend and take part in a rich program of talks, activities, and artistic interventions. VIMA’s parallel programme of exhibitions and events extends beyond the fair to the rest of Limassol and Nicosia.
A highlight will undoubtedly be the outdoor group exhibition “The posterity of the sun”, curated by Ludovic Delalande from the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. Among the 18 participating artists are internationally acclaimed names such as Simone Fattal, Ali Cherri, Christodoulos Panayiotou, and Nefeli Papadimouli.
Exhibition opening hours:
- May 16: 15:00–22:00
- May 17: 15:00–20:00
- May 18: 12:00–19:00
A full pass for all three days costs €25 (general admission), €12 (reduced), while children up to 7 years old can enter free of charge.
I’m really looking forward to visiting VIMA Art Fair, as I believe it will be a wonderful opportunity to experience new artistic encounters and discover fresh perspectives through contemporary art. As the renowned American artist Jeff Koons aptly said, “Contemporary art is a challenge to the way we see the world and a call to think beyond the obvious.” I’ll be back with impressions!
