The Mediterranean diet is the way of eating followed by the peoples of the countries of the Mediterranean Sea. This is beacuase,  many of these countries due to the good climate produce many of these foods, such as olive oil for example, so they are more accessible to the public for consumption. So we are dealing with the nutritional mentality of the southern peoples of Europe. In this article we will see the characteristics of the Mediterranean diet and the benefits to our health.
In this way of eating we distinguish:

- Consumption of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains in large quantities.
- Olive oil is the main source of fat, neglecting saturated fats, such as butter or oil.
- Moderate consumption of protein of animal origin, such as red meat, poultry, egg and milk, as well as protein of plant origin (legumes)
- Consumption of fish and seafood, rich in omega-3 fats.
- Moderate consumption of red wine, usually with meals.

The benefits of Mediterranean health for the body are numerous. For example, there is a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's and some types of cancer. Also, the Mediterranean diet improves mood, memory and cognitive function. The Mediterranean diet is essentially a way of life, which includes the enjoyment of flavors and physical activity.
